Check-out begins this week! During our library lesson, we will review check-out procedures and how to find a "good fit" book using the 5 Finger Rule. (Grades 3-5 will have a Destiny lesson in lieu of the 5 Finger Rule.) We will also demonstrate proper shelf marker ("stick") etiquette and observe students to make sure they understand our expectations regarding check-out.
STEAM comes to the library this week for our 3rd & 4th grade hour long blocks. These students will divide into groups for center activities. Each group will be testing a keyboarding program called Typing Club. (We are evaluating the program using a small sample group before making the decision of whether or not to buy it for the entire school.) Groups will also be participating in a slime experiment in which students will make slime from different ingredients (no borax) and record their findings on an official Lab Report.
60 minute class schedule:
20 minutes - Lesson
30 minutes - Center rotations + checkout/read to self
10 minutes - Clean-up and prepare to transition to next class
45 minute class schedule:
15 minutes - Lesson
20 minutes - Center activities + checkout/read to self
10 minutes - Clean up and prepare to transition to next class
If our center rotations work well, we will roll out an abbreviated version to our 45 minute block classes.
