Yes, there really is an official National Candy Corn Day.
Do you know the secret ingredient that makes candy corn so creamy?
Watch and learn!
Social studies standards changed this year so that our third grade friends are now starting to learn about the European explorers who discovered the New World.
Click on a name below to go to an explorer mini-biography from Enchanted Learning:
Vasco Nunez de Balboa
Hernando de Soto
Jacques Cartier (you will need to find his name on the page)
Assignment: Choose an explorer. Read his biography. Create a trading card for your explorer (form provided). You may print ONE picture to paste onto your trading card, but ask for assistance with sizing the picture before printing.
What was life like in the 1500's (also known as The Renaissance or Medieval Times)?
Assignment: Click on the links above to learn about daily life in the times of our explorers. Read carefully and take notes if you wish. Pretend you are Christopher Columbus (or another explorer from this time period) coming to the New World in 2492. What do you think he will find? What do you think his reaction will be? Share your thoughts on the paper provided.
