Can you believe it? This will be our LAST full week of classes for the school year.
This week we will be sharing our favorite summer stories, reviewing/learning about genres, making sure we can get into the Scholastic Summer Reading website and learning about fun summer reading activities.
Shared Reading: Charlie Crook's Favorite Book by Julia Donaldson or alternate selection
Brain Pop segment on genre (grades 4 & 5) Brain Pop Jr segment on choosing a book (grades 2 & 3)
Whole group mini-lesson on genre.
Activity: Students will be asked to collect data points on at least 4 of their fellow students (all students at one table for most classes) and classify according to genre. Mrs. Kent will compile and summarize data by grade level and post it here next week.
Choice of Activity: Students will make a poster to advertise their favorite book OR Charlie Crook activity sheet.

Riverside Live is our daily news show that is broadcast on the closed circuit system via Channel 5.
Each news team consists of two anchors, a camera operator, a mixer & sound technician plus a director. Students are expected to be here by 7:35 a.m. If you eat breakfast at school, then come get a breakfast pass as soon as you arrive. Enjoy your breakfast in your classroom and return to the Media Center by 7:35 a.m. If you have already had breakfast, then remain in your classroom until 7:30 a.m. Use this opportunity to complete your morning work.
News team members are expected to be R.I.V.E.R. role models and set an example for other students. Participating in Riverside Live is a privilege. Maintaining your position on the news team depends on your behavior in class and keeping up with your class work.
